Jay Delano (Jerrel Koningsverdraag) was born on 26th May 1974
in Eindhoven, in Holland. He is the oldest of four siblings: Cheryl, Roberto
and Mac.
As a little boy, Jay was growing up surrounded by music. When he couldn’t
sleep his mother used to play him r’n’b and soul songs, as she was a singer
herself. He knew from the very beginning that in future he would be doing the
same thing.
Before he started his career in the music
industry, he had been a model, worked for TV and he had also written songs that
he was putting into the drawer. First, he was learning the art of singing in
his bathroom, in front of the mirror, later on he was a member of a few music
bands. His very own band called R’n’G turned out to be a huge success between
1996 and 2001. Together with Ricardo Overman, they released two hit albums. At
that time he listened to such artists as: Boys II Men, Blackstreet, Puff Daddy
or K-Ci and JoJo.
After R’n’G stopped their activity, Jay had come through a religious
change and concentrated mainly on gospel music, singing in a church. He also
played a role in a movie and, what’s more, got married. In 2005 he
came back to the show business and took part in a video of Karmah. This is how
the clip for the song ‘Just Be Good to Me’ has been made. In summer 2006 he
released his first well known solo single called ‘Close To You’.
Jay’s solo album, also named ‘Close To You’, was out first in Poland on
11th June 2007. The world premiere took place in July. The artist
hit the Polish market with his new image, still remembering warm welcomes from
the Polish audience during the successful times with R’n’G. He kept some
contacts with Polish people working in the music industry which he decided to
renew. His album was released by the biggest Polish record label My Music.
Polish producer Tabb from Poznan helped Jay master the tracks. Also the Polish
Group 13 was involved in making the video for the second single called
‘Rockstar’.
Jay’s 3rd single, ‘Just like Me’, was created in collaboration
with the rapper P. Moody; although you cannot find this track on Jay’s first
album. At the concerts, Jay is often supported by his cousin R. Kay, who’s
rapping in this song. Kay also supports Jay in the new track ‘You Can Make It’
which will be released very soon. Both of them were performing during big
open events organized by Polish Eska Radio between June and September 2007 in
the biggest Polish cities.
Lately Jay was busy with shows at the clubs
all over Poland. What’s more, he was involved in making a boys band in
Holland. He lives currently in
Amsterdam, leading a happy life with his wife Cindy who remains his biggest
inspiration. |
